SITE TOUR

Located on the waterfront of Victoria Harbour, The Library at The Dock has been awarded Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star – Design PILOT rating, an achievement that represents ‘world leadership’ in sustainable design.

Over three levels, the building moves beyond the services of a traditional library, to supporting a culture of creativity. This dynamic building incorporates a traditional library collection, an impressive digital collection, multi-purpose community spaces as well as recording and animation suites.

In this interactive site tour you will be guided through not only the state-of-the-art library facilities but gain a unique insights into the functioning of a collaborative community environment.

1:30 PM - 3:30 PM Engaging the Community to Build a Roadmap for Library Space Design & Development

Libraries need to be flexible, adaptive and ready for change. By shifting focus from library to customer needs - libraries can ensure their future relevancy in a competitive world. When designing contemporary library spaces, programs and strategies, community input is one of the key drivers for successful transformation. This workshop will cover new ways of engaging the community – from design thinking through to themed patron centred workshops.This workshop will provide ideas and scope for stakeholder engagement and a new way to innovate in contemporary library spaces; transforming libraries into a relevant forward thinking public service for its community. This design thinking workshop will allow participants to experience different community engagement and techniques to help:

  • Facilitate discussion to identify needs, aspirations and understanding future scenarios
  • Exploring the nexus between users, space, library requirements and technology
  • Engaging community in the design and conceptualisation process
